HEAL means Health Education and Learning. It is a free Alberta Health Services resource for parents and caregivers. It provides trusted information about common childhood illnesses and minor injuries.
The information comes from children's emergency medicine experts at Alberta Children's Hospital and Stollery Children's Hospital. Each topic explains possible causes, symptoms, home-care options, and when a child needs medical care.
Topics include coughs, colds, fever, ear pain, nosebleeds, vomiting and diarrhea, rashes, influenza, minor head injuries, and fever-related seizures. The website also has videos and a Know Your Options tool to help families choose the right type of care.
This information does not replace advice from a healthcare professional. If you are worried about your child's health, contact your healthcare provider or call Health Link at 811. If your child has an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
