Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Prevention Initiative (Alberta)
Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Prevention Initiative is a province-wide program that aims to reduce workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses by promoting proactive health and safety measures. It brings together employers, workers, government and health and safety professionals to identify common hazards, share data and coordinate prevention efforts.
The initiative focuses on three key areas where many injuries occur:
Mental health
Psychosocial hazards (including violence and harassment)
Musculoskeletal disorders caused by overexertion and repetitive tasks, and slips, trips and falls.
It also prioritizes support for higher-risk groups such as small businesses, young and older workers, Indigenous workers, people in short-term or multiple jobs, and temporary foreign or migrant workers.
